Some things to consider
Why create a new social media account?
- What would be the purpose of the account?
- Why is this type of social media a good fit?
- Could an existing channel meet the need?
Who is the audience?
- Be specific when defining your audience. (It's usually too vague to say that the target audience is "partners" or "potential donors.")
- Once you know who you want to reach, determine the extent to which your audience is active on social media.
- Is your audience interacting with other users on this type of social media platform?
- Or is your audience posting its own content on autopilot, without reading the type of content that you would want to share?
Will enough people follow the account soon enough to meet your goals?
- New accounts start with zero followers. It can take years of creating daily posts to build a following on social media.
- Is there an existing social media account, e-mail mailing list, or website that could meet your needs?
